Who can join the Association?
Membership is open to all professionals in the film value chain, including directors, producers, cinematographers, scriptwriters, and actors. We offer tiers for established professionals, emerging filmmakers, and students.
How does the Association help with copyright protection?
We assist members in registering their work with the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA). Under the current proclamation, we provide a prima facie evidence certificate that simplifies legal disputes and helps combat digital piracy on platforms like YouTube.
Is registration mandatory to have copyright?
No, copyright protection is automatic upon the "fixation" of the work (once it is recorded). However, we strongly recommend formal registration through the Association to gain legal leverage in case of infringement.
Does the Association provide direct funding for films?
While we do not provide direct grants, we act as a bridge to the National Film Trust Fund (under the new policy). We also help members prepare "pitch decks" and legal documentation required for international co-production grants and loans.
